Im Zentrum von Diana Scherers botanischen Installationen und Textilien steht die große Bewunderung und Neugier für das, was Neurobiologen das "Gehirn der Pflanzen" nennen. Die Künstlerin studiert Pflanzen und Wurzelsysteme, um deren "natürliche" Wachstumsprozesse zu kontrollieren. In ihren Installationen untersucht sie die Grenzen zwischen Pflanzenkultur und Pflanzennatur. Was bedeutet "natürlich" im Anthropozän? Ist der Mensch Teil der Natur oder eine parasitäre Spezies in der Umwelt? In den letzten Jahren hat sich ihre Faszination auf die Dynamik des Wurzelsystems konzentriert. Das nackte Wurzelwerk, als Textil oder als lebende Skulptur präsentiert, zeigt Spuren eines rücksichtslosen Eingriffs in ein natürliches System, aber auch ein Konzept für einen möglichen kultivierten Weg miteinander. Die Arbeit nimmt Bezug auf aktuelle ökologische Fragestellungen. Scherer will sich mit ihren Bildern dem Thema auf poetische Weise nähern und versteht sich als Bindeglied zwischen Wissenschaft und Publikum.

At the heart of Diana Scherer's botanical installations and textiles is a great admiration and curiosity for what neurobiologists call the "brain of plants." The artist studies plants and root systems to control their "natural" growth processes. In her installations, she explores the boundaries between plant culture and plant nature. What does "natural" mean in the Anthropocene? Are humans part of nature or a parasitic species in the environment? In recent years, her fascination has focused on the dynamics of the root system. The bare root system, presented as a textile or as a living sculpture, shows traces of a ruthless intervention in a natural system, but also a concept for a possible cultivated interaction with each other. The work refers to current ecological issues. Scherer wants to approach the subject in a poetic way with her „paintings“ and sees herself as a link between science and the public.
